The Lyric Theatre & Cultural Arts Center & Message Theater are proud to put on a production of the Pulitzer Prize winning 'The Piano Lesson', by famed American playwright August Wilson.

August Wilson is arguably one of America's greatest playwrights, author of an epic cycle of dramas about the African-American experience in the 20th century. Wilson's work included a series of ten plays, The Pittsburgh Cycle, for which he received two Pulitzer Prizes for Drama. One of the most prominent and influential of these play is The Piano lesson.

Set in 1936 Pittsburgh during the aftermath of the Great Depression, The Piano Lesson follows the lives of the Charles family in the Doaker Charles household and an heirloom, the family piano, which is decorated with designs carved by an enslaved ancestor. The play focuses on the arguments between a brother and a sister who have different ideas on what to do with the piano.

Come enjoy this classic story as presented by Lexington's own Message Theater on The Lyric's historic stage.
